One of my favorite things to do with friends (ok, over good food) is compare buzz words from different work settings.  If you work online, there are of course standard roving packs of words that people use that really mean something not altogether different from simpler words that could have been used.  So synergize (aka just “work together”), align, touch base, etc.  I could continue, but this post would go on for hours.

The guys over at 37Signals who for my money, write a real nice clear thinking blog, capture this cleanly for “monetize” which I will confess to having used myself.  Here’s my favorite part:

The most basic principle of business doesn’t need an exotic dress and an academic hat.

Pretty much says it all.  I’m going see if I can catch myself next time and call it what it is: “making some money.”
